FAQs

Let us help answer your questions about adoption!

If you are thinking about adoption, we can help. We will make ourselves available to meet with you at your convenience.

  • Why choose My Florida Adoptions?

My Florida Adoptions provides adoption education and guidance and creates a safe place for expectant birth parents.  We want our clients to feel fully supported throughout their adoption plan and afterwards.  Our purpose is to empower our clients to create a personalized plan that is right for them.

  • What services do you provide?

Our agency provides individualized case management based on your situation and needs.  We provide financial assistance, adoption counseling during the process and after, legal representation, assistance with selecting an adoptive family for your child, as well as adoption and hospital planning.

  • What does financial assistance include?

Per Florida law, prospective adoptive parents may provide reasonable living expenses which include rent, utilities, phone, food, toiletries, clothing, and transportation.  Medical and other expenses are available on a case by case basis. These expenses can be paid for the length of the pregnancy and six weeks post-partum.

  • Are there any costs to me?

No.  All adoption fees and costs are paid by the prospective adoptive parents including living expenses, counseling, and legal representation.

  • How do I pick a family?

Our families go through a detailed screening process to make sure they are educated and prepared to adopt.  You will receive profile books based upon your preferences for an adoptive family and the level of openness desired.

  • Does the father of the baby have to be involved?

The birth father’s involvement in the adoption plan is important.  However, we know that situations arise when the unmarried biological father cannot or refuses to be involved.  It is important to provide as much information pertaining to the birth father(s)/legal father to My Florida Adoptions so we can take all legal steps required to protect your adoption plan.

  • When is my adoption decision final?

In the state of Florida, a Consent to Adoption cannot be executed until after the birth of the baby and it has been 48 hours after the birth of the child or you have been medically discharged from the hospital.  Once executed, it is permanent and binding upon execution.  If the child is over the age of six (6) months, you will have three (3) business days to change your mind.

  • Can I have an open adoption?

It is your choice as to the level of openness you have in your adoption plan. You may choose to meet the adoptive parents and build a relationship with them prior to delivery.  After delivery, you can receive picture and letter updates and/or visits if you desire.  Our goal is to find an adoptive family who desires the same level of openness as you.  Of course, you can also choose no future contact or updates.

  • How long is counseling available to me?

We know the adoption journey lasts long after your adoption plan ends.  We provide adoption counseling to you any time throughout your adoption plan and in the future.
